It’s been a whirlwind two years for Dakota Wright, and he’s excited to see where the next few take him.
The North Carolina-based TikTok creator has been navigating viral fame ever since his first “food order” videos went viral on the app. While he was simply capitalizing on a trend by injecting his unique brand of humor and delivery style into it, his videos were the ones that stood out from the pack. In the two years since then, he’s posted at least one food order video a week and amassed over 600,000 TikTok followers.
For the latest episode of In The Know by Yahoo’s pop culture interview series We Should Talk, Wright opened up about what it’s been like navigating viral fame, what his husband, Jackson (who stars in a lot of his TikToks), thinks about all of this, his most surreal moments and why he’s not planning too far ahead. He also discussed his obsession with all things Bravo, whether he’d do a reality show of his own and much more.
“There are lots of couples, especially other gay couples, that start this whole thing together, and then once they get a large following, they break up. Then it becomes who’s better and who’s this and who’s that. Jackson just doesn’t care to make content, make videos, take pictures … when I say he’s like a true ‘straight man’ when it comes to stuff like that,” Wright laughed while discussing what his husband thinks of social media. “He literally will be like, ‘Dakota, just give me a joke. Tell me what you want me to say.’ We come up with it all together, and he’s just like, ‘I’ll show up.’ I’m like, ‘OK, that’s easy.’ […] It’s really nice.”
