A TikTok user who agreed to shave her head if the Detroit Lions commented on her video is facing backlash after failing to make good on her promise.
Recently, TikTokers have been making absurd promises under the condition that their favorite celebrities or TikTok accounts comment on their videos. The format of the videos is usually something like: “If [X person] comments on this post, then I’ll do [Y].”
On Nov. 30, TikTok user @ripkekenkenz made a video following this format. In her video, she promised that if the official Detroit Lions TikTok account commented on her video, she would shave her head.
Well, @ripkekenkenz’s video blew up with more than 18 million views and 2.3 million likes. In less than a day, the Detroit Lions commented on the video and said, “We know you know how this turns out…” Other NFL teams — including the Carolina Panthers, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers — also chimed in and were eager to see @ripkekenkenz keep up her end of the bargain.
Except, she never did. In a follow-up video, she claimed that she would be shaving her head on Dec. 1 — but when that day came, she revealed that she “wasn’t completely willing to shave” her head. Instead, she shaved her friend’s.
Understandably, people were upset.
“Disappointed but not surprised,” the official account of the Tampa Bay Rays said.
“You let us all down,” another person added.
“This is embarrassing,” a third wrote.
In the comments, @ripkekenkenz explained that she never expected the video to blow up like it did. Still, that doesn’t excuse her not keeping her word, especially when the entire world is watching.
Be careful what you post on TikTok!
