Get perfect beach waves with this moisturizing sea salt spray

Summer is still a ways away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t serve major mermaid waves now.

There are numerous hacks out there to try and recreate effortless, perfectly crinkly, beach waves. However, a lot of those tricks either don’t work or require so much salt they dehydrate your hair.

In The Know’s Phoebe Zaslav tested out a super cheap DIY sea salt spray that has key ingredients to keep your hair hydrated and moisturized. Here’s how to make it.

You’ll Need:

  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 4 to 5 drops essential oil

“I love this combination of ingredients because some DIY sea salt hair sprays literally just consist of water and sea salt,” Phoebe said. “And that’s really gonna dry your hair out.”

“The avocado is here to bring back moisture into your hair while giving it a good, thick texture [and] making it feel like you just dipped in the ocean,” she added.

Phoebe mixed the ingredients and placed them in a spray bottle. She dampened her hair and spritzed the mixture on her hair, avoiding direct contact with the roots. Then she let her hair air dry for the final results.

“Oh my gosh. It looks like how my hair actually looks when I’m at the beach,” Phoebe said. “I’m not shocked that it worked but I’m more shocked that my hair does not feel crunchy or like really stiff, like at all!”

She said her hair felt pillowy and light and gave the DIY sea salt spray a 10 out of 10.

“I’ve tried a lot of DIY remedies but I honestly mean it when I say this DIY, I would actually implement into my hair routine on days where I don’t feel like using tools,” Phoebe said. “I’m so happy with how this came out.”
