Duck with rare feather condition gets a customized raincoat: ‘So sweet and wholesome’

A duck with a rare feather condition finally got the custom raincoat she always needed.

TikToker @motherthemountain has a pet duck named Bee. Bee has a condition that affects her ability to make her feathers waterproof, which helps ducks float. So the pet owner decided to make Bee a raincoat to protect her from the elements. Now she can enjoy rainy days outside.

“She has a feather condition that means she can’t waterproof herself. So I’m making her a raincoat,” @motherthemountain explained

In the video, the TikToker measured the duck. Then she whipped out her sewing machine to make Bee a clear raincoat with yellow piping. It was chic, functional and fit Bee like a glove.

The adorable video racked up 15.1 million views and 3.9 million likes on TikTok.

“Tell Bee she looks gorgeous in her new raincoat,” a user wrote

“This makes my heart so happy,” another said

“This is so sweet and wholesome,” a person commented

Ducks can waterproof their feathers thanks to a special gland called the preen gland. The preen gland is located at the tail base and releases oil. Ducks coat their feathers in the oil so that water wicks off their bodies.

This prevents the feathers from absorbing water, ensuring ducks don’t weigh more and thus can stay afloat. Without the ability to waterproof their feathers, ducks might even drown, according to How Stuff Works
