Woman claims expired self-tanner turned her into Shrek

A woman’s hilarious spray tan fail has her comparing herself to Shrek.

Sometimes, beauty treatments don’t turn out quite the way we expect. When TikToker Laura Barraclough got a spray tan, she certainly wasn’t hoping to turn green. Fortunately, she had a sense of humor about the mishap and fully embraced her new look.

“You have to start romanticizing your green skin,” Barraclough said earnestly as relaxing music played. “No, it’s not a spray tan gone wrong. You wanted to be Shrek. And that’s OK.”

Barraclough showed off her body, which was covered in a light green hue.

“Oh my god. I thought I was the only one,” a user commented

“Yeah, this is what happens when you use old tanner,” someone wrote

“You need a few more coats if you want to be Shrek,” another joked

People who thought the tanner must have gone bad may have been correct. According to Tropicoco Salon, “Spray tan goes out of date due to ‘oxidization.’ Oxidization is the gain of oxygen to a substance, resulting in a greenish spray tan that won’t make you as brown.”

Spray tan solution should be stored in a cool, dark place and used within six months. Most solutions have red and green bases. The red base in the tanner is typically the first to go bad, often only leaving the green base — hence why so many people like Barraclough experience the Shrek effect.
