With fall in full swing, trends from last season’s runway are about to start popping up on the real-life streets — and that includes shoes. So while you can expect to see the usual suspects walking around (little black booties, that means you!), don’t be surprised if you start to see everyone rocking similar styles.

Below, get the inside scoop on three of the biggest shoe trends of the fall, and shop both save and splurge styles!

1. Chunky loafers and oxfords

Save: Madewell The Corinne Lugsole Loafer, $158

The Corinne Lugsole Loafer is a Madewell best seller for good reason! These shoes are your classic penny loafer but brought up to today’s fashion thanks to their chunky heel. You can snag these shoes in black or brown, and you can feel good about your purchase because they are made out of special Low Impact To the Environment leather.

Splurge: Frēda Salvador Carey Platform Loafer, $395

Frēda Salvador is a woman-owned and Latinx-owned brand that was dreamed up by two best friends. All of their shoes are gorgeous, but the Carey Platform Loafer is totally on-trend right now. These loafers are made with 100% Italian black embossed leather and have comfortable 2-inch heels to give you a little height.

2. Slipper-inspired slides

Save: TKEES Ines Shearling slides, $150

TKEES make incredible sandals, but the brand’s slippers are where it’s at for the fall. The Ines Shearling slides come in four different colors and feature a suede upper, shearling insole and rubber outsole. [Editor’s note: I have these shoes in the chocolate color and am totally obsessed. They are plush and cozy and really well made.]

Splurge: Nicholas Kirkwood Beya Flat Mules, $795

If slippers are your end-all-be-all shoe, you may want to splurge on these beauties from Nicholas Kirkwood. Available at Shopbop, these mules have a suede upper and a shearling insole, as well as a leather sole with a rubber patch. These shoes are made in Italy and are super luxurious.

3. Western boots

Save: Universal Thread Denise Western Boots, $39.99

These boots are super versatile and a Target find! If you’re on the fence when it comes to this trend, these simple booties are a great way to dip a toe in. With the Denise Western Boots, you’ll get a memory foam insole, a side zip closure and a pointed toe. Grab them in chocolate brown or tan.

Splurge: Jeffery Campbell The Kid Western Boot, $324.95

Credit: Nordstrom

If you really want to lean into the cowboy trend, then you’ll love the Jeffery Campbell The Kid Western Boot. These boots come in black, beige, navy and tan and have that classic western feel, but the studs keep them modern. This design features a mid-calf height, a pointed toe and a stacked heel.
