A Michigan boy and his pup have gone viral for being the perfect match for each other, WLIX reports.
On September 3, Brandon Boyers, the father of 2-year-old Bentley, went to the Jackson County Animal Shelter to adopt two chickens when he came across a 2-month-old pup with a cleft lip. Boyers, whose son is also living with the same condition, then shared his chance encounter with Bentley’s mother Ashley, who couldn’t contain her excitement.
“He Facetimed me,” Ashley recalled. “He goes, ‘I think this one has a cleft lip,’ and I said, ‘Get her! We need her!'”
The parents’ eventual adoption of the dog, which was shared by the shelter on its Facebook page, has since gone viral, receiving over 35,000 likes.
“It’s so hard to put into words how meaningful this adoption is to all of us so we are going to let the pictures speak for themselves,” the shelter posted, including several photos of Bentley hugging and interacting with his pup.
In an interview with WLIX, Ashley revealed that her son struggled to eat when he was a newborn.
“We had to sit him up and feed him and hold his lip together in order for him to eat, so it was a process,” she said.
Now, having completed two surgeries, Bentley, who will undergo a bone-grafting surgery when he’s older, appears to be getting day by day. Undoubtedly, his partner-in-crime — his dog — will now also be there for him every step of the way, his mother said.
“To see him have something in common with a puppy means a lot ’cause he can grow up and understand that he and his puppy both have something that they can share in common,” Ashley told the station.
