Less than a week after a black cat found its way onto the field for the Cowboys’ Week 9 matchup with the New York Giants, the now-famous feline has been named part of the team. Dubbed “Rally Cat,” the animal was introduced as one of the starters for Sunday night’s game between Dallas and the Minnesota Vikings.
A photo of the cat was shown during pregame introductions right after quarterback Dak Prescott. Rally Cat was deemed “last week’s MVP” by the AT&T Stadium announcer.
The moment was recorded and posted to Twitter by Cowboys reporter Jon Machota:
The viral sensation wasn’t actually in the building for the game, of course. The cat is still eluding capture by MetLife Stadium employees after it made a run for the endzone during last week’s “Monday Night Football” game, when the Cowboys handily defeated the Giants 37-18.
The homage to the feline didn’t bring such luck on Sunday, however. Dallas lost to the Minnesota Vikings 28-24 after several questionable red zone calls in the game’s final minutes.
