Between long work days, homework help, dinner prep and bedtime duties that come along with motherhood, my desire to climb into bed hits its peak around 9 p.m. I love my kids and my job, but — man, oh man — they both take a toll on my energy. Sure, I’m the kind of person who can get by on very little sleep when needed. But when I’m able to get a good night’s rest, my ability to do my day job (working) and full-time job (parenting) is massively improved.

If you’re like me, as soon as you check all your boxes for the day and lay down to sleep, your mind starts spinning. Luckily, I’ve had this happen enough times to know how to stop the cycle of late-night overthinking, trading it in for a glorious REM cycle instead.

For mommas out there who desperately want to sleep better, here are a few tips and products to help you wake up with that unstoppable, well-rested energy. Don’t worry. It’s not as elusive as you might think.

First things first, you can help yourself out by implementing a few best practices such as:

These little habits can make a drastic impact on your ability to go to bed on time and sleep deeply. Now, let’s get into some of my favorite products for even sweeter dreams.

Shop: Equilibria CBD Daily Drop, $49.30 with code SCOUTTHECITY

Credit: Equilibria

I started taking CBD drops not too long ago, and I’ve been thrilled (or should I say calmed) by the effect. Somewhere in the window between dinner and bedtime, I’ll take my recommended dosage of these oil drops. They help me kick anxiety to the curb, and get in bed with a clear mind and grateful heart.

CBD drops are great for anyone with insomnia or with a mind that races as soon as you lay down to rest. You can also take these during the day if you start to feel overly anxious — or on days when your kids refuse to get dressed. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Shop: Mulberry Silk Pillowcase, $24.50

Credit: Amazon

We talk about skin care products all day long, but the surface you lay your head on at night is just as important to your skin. Sleeping on a pillowcase made out of 100 percent mulberry silk is one of the best things you can do for healthy skin and hair. This silk is naturally hypoallergenic, helps retain moisture and results in less friction than traditional cotton pillowcases, making it wonderful for sensitive skin. It also helps prevent bed head so that you can say “I woke up like this” — and mean it! — way more often.

Shop: Brooklinen Luxe Hardcore Sheet Bundle, $240

Credit: Brooklinen

You’ll never have to worry about counting sheep if you have the right thread count. To be honest, I never thought that was true. But as you get older, you realize how important it is to make your bed a little sanctuary. I love Brooklinen sheets, because you immediately feel like your own in a cozy cocoon. But beware: Your kids will notice and might pull a “monster under my bed” farce just so they can mooch.

Shop: Biossance Squalane Night Serum, $62

Credit: Sephora

I never go to bed without putting on a night serum. It’s like the skincare equivalent of passive income. You get an ROI while you sleep. This night serum by Biossance is hydrating, smoothing and simply feels delightful on your skin. Who doesn’t want to wake up looking radiant?

Shop: Moon Juice Magnesi-OM, $42

Credit: Moon Juice

If you can’t quite tap into that “Om” feeling before bed, this super powder supplement is for you. It dissolves in water and contains three kinds of magnesium to promote feelings of calm, so you can chill out and power down. It has a berry flavor and it’s sweetened with monk fruit, giving you zen benefits (zenefits?) without any foul aftertaste. Sometimes I take this during the day, as well when stress is getting the best of me.

Shop: Sakara Sleep Tea, $20

Credit: Sakara

A warm cup of tea can go a long way when it comes to decompressing — and this superherb sleep version by Sakara is my elixir of choice. It contains valerian root, catnip and passionflower herbs that soothe your nervous system and promote relaxation. Steep, sip and sleep. It’s as easy as that.

Shop: Byredo Bibliothèque Candle, $85

Credit: Byredo

A scented candle is the poster child for zen, and I always keep one on my bedside table. The Bibliothèque scent by Byredo is one of my favorites of late. The leather scent with vanilla undertones is inspired by an old library, a place I fell asleep many times during college. Just kidding… or am I?

So there you have it: These are a few of my go-to tips and products for sleeping soundly. I hope this helps any mommas out there who are worried that the bags under their eyes are permanent fixtures. It doesn’t have to be that way! With a bit of discipline and a secret weapon or two, you can raise a child, put in work and get the sleep you deserve. Sweet dreams!
