Gen Z is swooning over a new Australian heartthrob — but millennials might recognize his vibe.
Ginny & Georgia is Netflix’s latest teen soap. The series has been fondly described as Guy Fieri’s “trashcan nachos” by Vulture, largely because it mixes familiar beats from old and new favorites like Weeds, Good Girls and Gilmore Girls. The show is about a mother and daughter who move to a small New England town.
Enter 22-year-old Felix Mallard, the actor who portrays Marcus, the daughter’s love interest. He is being compared to Gilmore Girl’s lovable brood Jess Mariano, and it’s not hard to see why.
Who is Felix Mallard?
Felix Cooper Mallard was born in Melbourne, Australia, on April 20, 1998. In school he was a competitive fencer and competed at state and national levels. He also studied Italian in school, though he admits that he’s “[not] entirely fluent just yet.”
When he was 15, Mallard snagged his first major role as Ben Kirk on the iconic Australian soap Neighbours. He was a recurring character on the show from 2014 to 2019.
Mallard also played Cooper James, a character based on Harry Styles, on the CBS comedy Happy Together, which was also produced by the pop star. Styles actually called Millard to let him know he got the role, which the actor said was a pretty surreal experience.
“I was expecting a call from Ben, our executive producer, and all of the sudden the phone rings,” Mallard told Billboard. “An unknown number calls, so I put on a hat and get ready to talk. I answer and it goes, ‘Hi, this is Harry. We really like your stuff and we hope you come on board.'”
In 2020, Mallard made his Netflix debut as Lucas Caravaggio on the horror drama Locke & Key, based on the comic book series of the same name.
Mallard is also a musician.
Music has always been a part of Mallard’s life. The actor, who was in a punk bad back in high school called Enemies Alike, has previously posted some of his unfinished creations on YouTube and he even has a recurring role on NBC’s musical comedy Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
“My dad played guitar and he still plays guitar so he was always singing and playing for me when I was growing up,” he explained to Entertainment Weekly. “I picked up a guitar when I was about seven or eight, I think, and I’ve just been trying my hardest since then. I also started playing piano when I was about 10, and then picked up the drums with my band when I was about 12 or 13, and singing sort of came along with that.”
Is Felix Mallard dating anyone?
Mallard was previously linked to his Neighbours co-star Lilly Van Der Meer, who also played his on-screen love interest. Right now, though, he appears to be keeping things low-key and private, and there aren’t any pictures of him with a girlfriend on his social media pages.
