As a parent, finding ample time to exercise can be tricky. Meanwhile, with remote school, many kids aren’t getting their regular dose of recess and gym class.
Enter the perfect solution: Exercising together! Parent-child exercising is a great way for you to get a workout in, while also allowing your child to get their energy out. It might not be as intensive as that spin class you were planning, but it’ll get your blood pumping and it’s a great bonding experience! Here are 5 fun, free online workouts the whole family will enjoy.
These fun themed family-style workouts
YouTube channel “Pregnancy and Postpartum TV” specializes in themed workouts that you and your kids can do together. From Super Mario to Toy Story, fitness professional Jessica uses your kids’ favorite characters to get them excited about exercise. The instructions are easy to follow, and the workouts are a great fit for kids of all ages.
This “Zoofari” animal-themed workout
Made by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, this zoo-themed workout is suggested for kids 3-5 years old. The “Zoofari” workout will have you and your kid hopping like frogs, spinning like eagles, crawling like bears and jumping like kangaroos. It’s short and sweet, but it teaches you moves that you and your kid can do anytime, anywhere.
This Nick Jr. yoga session
This video is a great way for your family to nama-stay in shape with the help of your child’s favorite Nick Jr. characters. Friends from Bubble Guppies, Shimmer & Shine, and Team Umizoomi guide young yogis through basic yoga positions. Inexperienced parents should prepare to be challenged, especially by the intimidating “guppy pose.”
This no-frills workout
Ideal for older kids (grades K-5), the full-body workouts offered by Group HIIT don’t have the bells and whistles that most kids’ workouts do. These videos offer step-by-step instructions without any big distractions, characters or themes. For parents who prefer to let the workout itself do the talking, these classes are a great option that’ll have the whole family breaking a sweat.
This superhero workout
This 5-minute workout will have you and your child punching and kicking (just the air, don’t worry) your way to becoming an Avenger. Fitness brand Les Mills partnered with Marvel HQ to create this high-energy, epic class that’s sure to get any superhero fan off their feet. Cape and superpower not included.
