Seeing a live musical can feel like magic. It’s not just the singing and dancing either. The entire spectacle of performers, moving stages and elaborate outfits can transport you to another world.
Still, the reality of how a musical gets made is less like magic and more like the ending of The Wizard of Oz. At least that’s how things appeared for one devoted stagehand. TikToker @cedeeweedee showed what it was like working behind the scenes on a production of Frozen.
“A dress rehearsal and all performances of Elsa’s dress reveal as seen from side stage,” she explained.
The footage showed Elsa standing atop a staircase with the stagehand hidden behind it. As the performer sang, “Let it Go,” the stagehand ripped off her hooded blue dress to transition into her princess outfit. The pair pulled off the costume change seamlessly every show. And the audience audibly went wild for it every single time.
The little bit of insight into what goes on in a musical racked up a whopping 80 million views on TikTok.
“So that’s how they do that,” a user wrote.
“Stagehands never get the proper recognition,” another said.
“What I love about this video is that it shows just how essential every single person involved in the show really is,” someone commented.
