While there are plenty of back-to-school sales and deals happening now, as with most things, Gen Z is going to be the generation that sets the trends for the new school year. And since schools across the country will be holding classes IRL this semester, Gen Z is already shopping for their first-day outfits.
However, while the teens and tweens are down to buy some new pieces, staying money-conscious is still top of mind. According to new research from Afterpay, 63% of Gen Z students are looking for deals and other ways to save money when shopping. Also, nearly 23% of them plan to use a buy now, pay later service such as Afterpay to help them avoid debt and stick to their budget. (Luckily, Afterpay is available at a ton of popular retailers like Shein, American Eagle, Goat, Ulta and Urban Outfitters.) Additionally, 45% of students are interested in shopping at small businesses.
As for which exact trends Gen Z students are most excited about this season, Afterpay tapped businesswoman and fashion correspondent Zanna Roberts Rassi for her style expertise. Spoiler alert — comfortable pieces that are a step up from your quarantine sweatsuits take the top spot.
Keep reading to find out which trends Rassi says students can expect to see walking down the halls this year.
