Gigi Gorgeous is paying it forward with her new book by sharing what she’s learned over the past 31 years.

Co-authored with one of her best friends, RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Gottmik, The T Guide: Our Trans Experiences and a Celebration of Gender Expression — Man, Woman, Nonbinary and Beyond is a first-of-its-kind collection of stories, advice and answers about the transgender experience. It’s meant to be a resource for anyone going through their own transgender journey or an ally who wants to learn more.

Gigi has been a prominent figure in the trans community ever since she came out in 2013 and went on to document her transition on social media, using her growing YouTube platform to advocate for a variety of pertinent LGBTQ issues. Gottmik broke ground when he became the first trans man to compete on RuPaul’s Drag Race, reaching the finals of Season 13 in 2021.

For the latest episode of In The Know by Yahoo’s pop culture interview series We Should Talk, Gigi opened up about her friendship with Gottmik, their decision to write The T Guide together and who they envision the book being for. She also discussed why it’s such an important time for this book to come out, how allies can be there for the trans community right now and much more.

“I get so many questions every single day from people who are newly transitioning, that have begun their transition, are years in [to their transition] and people who have been trans for over a decade like myself,” Gigi told In The Know, alluding to the need for a book like The T Guide. “I feel like we never really are fully done transitioning, which is something that I had a come-to-Jesus moment about over the past few years. I thought that there would be a finish line. I thought that that would be it. On a personal note, me and my husband — who is also trans — are trying to have biological children, and I’m currently off hormones, which is something that I never thought that I would be. It just goes to show that you never know what life is going to throw at you. It’s one of those things where it’s always a learning lesson.”

“My dad once said to me, ‘When you transitioned, I thought it was just you that was going to transition. But I learned that it was everyone around you, especially you and I, that had to transition together,'” Gigi added. “I thought that was so profound and beautiful. It didn’t really hit me until a lot later, but it was so true. This book is just so needed for even just moments like that.”
