Anyone who’s looking for a new guy is hoping to snag the mythical “golden retriever boyfriend.”
This new kind of man is neither the so-called “nice guy” who feels entitled to female attention because he isn’t a jerk nor is he the “bad boy” who was always going to break your heart from the beginning. The “golden retriever boyfriend” is pleasant, supportive and an equal to his partner.
Urban Dictionary defines “golden retriever boyfriend” as “a significant other that is easygoing and makes it fairly simple to maintain a happy and fulfilling relationship. Hence the reasoning why it is similar to having a golden retriever.”
Bisexual women seem to be the top demographic of golden retriever men, at least on TikTok. There’s an entire trend where bi women, like @dcbcrash lament the stereotypes they’re confronted with only to embrace the one that says they all have golden retriever boyfriends.
“You expect me to date a golden retriever gamer boy? With fluffy hair?” @actually.izzy asked looking repulsed. “I’m in.”
Meanwhile, @mochisharkie was miffed that all the golden retriever boys at her school were winning over all of “the out and proud bi girls.”
