The Upper East Side teen soap opera Gossip Girl will be returning to screens everywhere soon. HBO Max gave the reboot a straight-to-series order in 2019, but showrunner Joshua Safran has kept a tight lid on most of the details so far.
Here’s what we do know: About eight years after we last left Blair Waldorf, Serena van der Woodsen, Chuck Bass, Nate Archibald and Dan Humphrey, a new group of New York City private school teens will show just how much the city and social media has changed.
One thing, however, hasn’t changed — Kristen Bell will return to voice the spicy narrator.
Below, get to know some of the cast of the exciting Gossip Girl reboot.
Emily Alyn Lind
Lind will play series lead Audrey, a character who is wondering if she’s fulfilled by her long-term relationship. The actress previously starred in CBS’ Code Black and Netflix’s The Babysitter franchise.
Peak is also a series lead, but there’s no word on who she’s playing. You may have already seen the Canadian actress in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or Molly’s Game.
Brown is portraying another hush-hush character who rounds out the leading trio (him, Peak and Lind). Based on his dark, curly hair, many have speculated he will play a “Dan Humphrey” type. He starred in Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists and Netflix’s The F**k-It List.
Fernandez is a member of the core ensemble. Born in 1984, he’s a bit older than his fellow high school-age cast members, so who knows what’s in store. He previously starred in Fox’s Lethal Weapon series.
There are already rumors that Smith’s character might be the show’s Blair Waldorf. The casting is the first booking for the actress, who is studying at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Gotay is a part of the core ensemble. He had roles in Peter Pan Live! and Love Life.
Fashion’s former it girl, Tavi Gevinson also has a major (but still secret) role in the Gossip Girl reboot. Gevinson is famous for her fashion blog Style Rookie and online magazine Rookie. She appeared in Broadway’s This is Our Youth and in the film Enough Said.
Fans have guessed that Doherty might play a version of Chuck Bass or Nate Archibald. And the Scottish actor and musician is already living a teen dream, having starred in Disney’s The Lodge and The Descendants (not to mention dating his costar Dove Cameron since 2016).
Nobody knows who Chanler-Berat will be portraying, only that he’s a part of the principal cast. His credits include Next to Normal and The Starcatcher.
Moreno could be the show’s Serena van der Woodsen, but again, those pesky showrunners are keeping the details in Fort Knox. She has appeared in K-12, Claws and Control Z.
Alexander’s buzz cut evokes the aesthetics of Vanessa Abrams’ original character description from the book series. She has credits in Unbury the Biscuit and Please Kill Mr. Know It All.
Mock is a model, skateboarder and surfer from Oahu, Hawaii. The pink-haired actor doesn’t exactly resemble anyone from the original cast, so your guess as to what type of character he’s playing on the reboot is as good as anyone’s. He has walked the runways of Alyx and Louis Vuitton.
