Hailey Bieber’s cooking mantra? You can never have too much of a good thing. At least, that seems to be the rule behind her recipe for chocolate chunk cookies.
Hailey’s approach to the cookies — which were made gluten-free to accommodate Justin’s intolerance — appears fairly straightforward at first. However, the final step of her process was a sticking point for many fans, and now it’s drawing both confusion and praise online.
That unusual mix-up? Butter, and lots of it. In addition to using butter in her original mix, Hailey also tops her cookies with a heaping glob of butter before placing them in the oven.
“One thing that I like to do with cookies — don’t critique me, you people who are bakers — is I like to put butter on top so that the butter bakes into it,” Hailey says in the video.
The Biebers, for their part, seemed pleased by the result. After plenty of mid-recipe PDA, the couple takes their finished product and seems fairly impressed with their work.
“Delicious. Chewy in the middle, crunchy on the edges — just how I like it,” Hailey says.
Plenty of social media users seemed to agree with that review. Within days of the video’s release, several Twitter users were piecing together their own version of the butter-heavy recipe.
Meanwhile, some users were more perplexed than anything, questioning why Hailey needed to add so much extra butter to her cookies.
“[Hailey said] ‘I just want it to absorb the butter,'” one user wrote. “[BUT] THERE’S BUTTER! IN! THE BATTER!!!”
