Over the past few months, TikTok users have shared recipes for homemade Uncrustables, homemade Chick-fil-A fries and even homemade Taco Bell Baja Blasts. Oftentimes, they look just as good as the original.
So, the editors at In The Know knew we had to give homemade Cheez-Its a try. To do it, we got some help from our handy dandy Ninja Foodie 11-1 Pressure Cooker.

This cooking gadget comes with all kinds of wild features — including an air fryer, which we used to whip up our mock Cheez-Its.
“Literally making these right now,” one commenter wrote.
So, do the homemade Cheez-Its hold up to the hype? To find out, keep reading or watch the video above.

How to make homemade Cheez-Its
Here’s everything you’ll need to make the recipe (warning, it’s extremely simple):
- A straw
- The sliced cheese of your choosing
Start by cutting your sliced cheese into fourths. From there, lay all the slices out on a pan and, using the straw, poke a hole in the center of each one. Apparently, the holes are supposed to help steam pass through the slices —science!
Next, throw your slices in the Ninja Foodie and cook for five minutes at 350 degrees. Then, add some salt and you’re ready to munch!
So, are homemade Cheez-Its better than the real thing?
To give our homemade Cheez-Its a real test, we compared them to two other options: classic, original Cheez-Its and some “fancy” Whisps cheese crips.
When it came to price, the homemade version came in last, while the regular Cheez-Its reigned supreme. As far as taste went, all three of our snacks were delicious, but the homemade version got a small knock here, too. The edges were a little too burnt, and they really tasted like cheese more than anything.
Overall, the winner of our cheese-off was really our producer Justin, since he got to eat so many snacks. That victory notwithstanding, our real winner was the original, tried-and-true Cheez-Its. The TikTok version might be worth a try, but nothing can replace the real thing.
