Just a decade ago, the idea of making a living as a social media influencer hardly existed. Now, it seems ordinary people make serious coin by having a strong online presence.
Influencers on TikTok are content creators that earn money through advertisements, sponsorships and merchandise.
How many followers do you actually need on TikTok to get paid?
While there’s no minimum, those with higher followings can charge more for paid posts and therefore stand to earn more money. But advertisers seek out influencers with a broad number of followers depending on who their target audience is.
Micro-influencers have 1,000 to 100,000 followers that focus on a niche. Macro-influencers have 100,000 to 1 million followers and usually have a rabid following. Then there are nano-influencers with 1,000 followers or less that advertisers may seek out to influence their local communities.
Brands pay around $200 to $200,000 per sponsored post which is determined by how influential the person is.
Unlike other platforms, TikTok does pay some of its influencers.
How many followers do you need to join the TikTok Creator Fund?
The TikTok Creator Fund is the platform’s paid influencer program. You’ll need at least 100,000 followers to join.
“We want to show our appreciation to our brilliant creator community by rewarding them for their incredible TikTok videos and creativity. We want all creators to have the opportunity to earn money doing what they love and turn their passion into a livelihood,” TikTok said of the fund.
How are influencers paid in the TikTok Creator Fund?
TikTok uses a formula that weighs several factors including the number of views, whether or not those views are real, the engagement level and whether the content meets community guidelines.
There’s even a TikTok earnings calculator that you can use to estimate how much your posts are worth.
