If you grew up binge-watching movies from the early aughts, there’s one rom-com in particular that’s a stand-out and now a cult classic.
While 2003 produced several popular films you might remember like Uptown Girls, Cheaper By The Dozen and Love Actually, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is probably the rom-com that ignited your love for Kate Hudson.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days has many memorable moments (think, Andie’s yellow dress and yellow diamonds), but the scene involving the “love fern” easily ranks as one of the most iconic in early-2000s pop culture history.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, Kate Hudson plays Andie Anderson, a writer for a woman’s magazine who comes up with a “genius” idea for her relationships column. Rather than tell readers about how to get a guy, she decides to try to lose a guy. Without giving too much away, Andie eventually falls for the guy Benjamin Barry — ahem, Matthew McConaughey.
When trying to “lose” Benjamin, Andie leaves a fern houseplant at his apartment to basically “mark her territory” after just a few days of dating. Unsurprisingly, this totally freaks Benjamin out. The fern is nicknamed their “love fern,” yet Benjamin ends up killing it.
While Benjamin may have killed Andie’s love fern in the film, you can now buy your very own love fern for someone special in your life.
In partnership with Hudson’s King St. Vodka, UrbanStems now sells the houseplant as a gift, which is a nod to the movie’s love fern. When you order the four-inch potted Blue Bell fern, you’ll also receive a King St. Vodka plant mister, so you can easily water it.

And good news for those who aren’t equipped with a green thumb — this plant is pretty low-maintenance. It only requires indirect light, but it does need frequent misting if it’s not in a humid location.
Whether it’s a gift for someone for Valentine’s Day or for yourself to relive the nostalgia of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, this is a limited-edition collaboration you won’t want to miss.
