Videographer and founder of the “Serial Tipping” Movement on TikTok
Hometown: Nashville, Tenn.
Lexy Burke has raised nearly $200,000 through her TikTok Venmo Challenge and has given away every penny of those funds to over 133 deserving parties, including waiters, Uber drivers and people who are experiencing homelessness. Burke, a former waitress herself who received a life-changing $1,000 tip years ago, started the charitable trend in May 2020 — right after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic — in order to surprise a server during a dinner to celebrate her birthday. The trend quickly took off, and nearly a year later, she has inspired countless others on TikTok to crowdsource microdonations from their followers in order to help those who are hurting financially during a particularly devastating time for our nation. Burke has even shared detailed instructions to show anyone how to get started as a “serial tipper.” She doesn’t mind copycat Venmo Challenge videos at all; in fact, she encourages others to hop on the trend and make a difference in their own communities.
