‘Incredible’ 10-year-old drummer rages against machine for Black Lives Matter

A 10-year-old drumming sensation has gone viral on Facebook for her impressive take on rock band Rage Against the Machine’s “Guerrilla Radio. “

In the wake of the deaths of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, the parents of Nandi Bushell, a British drummer with over 325,000 followers on Facebook, shared a nearly one-minute clip of their daughter jamming to the band’s 1999 single. The video shows a montage of Nandi impressively playing the drums, bass and the guitar. Attached to the bass drum is a sign that reads “Black Lives Matter.”

“Solidarity in the Fight to End Racism!” the video’s description reads. “This song is one of [Nandi’s] favourite songs. Nandi has loved Rage Against The Machine since she was a baby.”

The video has since received over 12,000 reactions and nearly 600 comments.

“Nandi, I love you!” one person wrote. “You are so freaking rare and even at your young age [you are a] true ambassador for women, mankind, rock music and the whole world. ‘Be more Nandi.’ The world needs to be more like you.”

“You are such an incredible ray of sunshine in this cold world,” another added.

Nandi’s video has gained steam amidst protests following the death of Floyd, who was killed after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee against Floyd’s neck for approximately nine minutes. In the weeks since, demonstrators around the world have taken to the streets to protest against police brutality and systemic racism toward the Black community.

Over the years, Nandi has amassed a huge following through her riveting performances. In a 2019 interview with BBC, the drummer revealed that she had met and played alongside singer Lenny Kravitz. She also appeared in one of the most popular Christmas commercials that year.
