“The Good Place” actress Jameela Jamil hosts “I Weigh,” a podcast where she redefines a woman’s worth beyond her appearance. Even with just a few episodes released, the show has already featured esteemed guests like Reese Witherspoon, Demi Lovato and former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy. Jamil recently dished to the Associated Press about her dream guests.
She counted Tom Hanks among them saying he was the “almighty, unproblematic fave.” Whoopi Goldberg made the cut as one of her idols.
“Whoopi never took the typical roles given to women,” Jamil said. “She was the star of her own shows. She was funny. She was vulgar. She was herself. It always felt like you were seeing the real Whoopi in interviews. The way she would host the Oscars. The charisma, the power and the fact that there was no box that they tried to push Whoopi into. Whoopi is her own box. And I think that’s always been the goal for me, is to be my own box.”
Jamil would also like to interview another one of her idols, Angelina Jolie. Jolie has spoken out about humanitarian issues facing countries like Cambodia and Pakistan, which sparked Jamil’s fascination early on. She also cited the controversial media narratives that have followed the Academy Award-winning actress.
“She got blamed entirely for the breakup of the marriage,” she said. “I thought that was very interesting. Whereas that was a 50-50 responsibility. It takes two to tango. She was significantly younger than the other person involved in that affair. And I don’t think she’s blameless, but the way that we vilify the woman as the sole homewrecker is very problematic.”
“I Weigh” airs on the Earwolf podcast network.
