Kimchi recipes that are taking over TikTok

Kimchi is a Korean food staple made from salted and fermented vegetables. Kimchi is most commonly served as a side dish, but it can also be used in a variety of recipes. With its broad appeal, it’s no surprise that kimchi is taking over TikTok. From homemade kimchi to kimchi with spam, the crunchy fermented vegetable blend is super versatile. Here are five delicious kimchi recipes to get you started with this savory dish.

1. Homemade kimchi

Before cooking any meal with kimchi, it’s a good idea to know how to make it as a stand-alone dish. This recipe combines chopped radishes, green onions and chives with garlic, onion and ginger blended in a pan with mochiko flour and brown sugar. Season with red pepper powder and fish sauce before mixing the ingredients with your hands. Finally, add cabbage that’s been soaked in salt water and then drained. Fill an airtight container with your kimchi, leaving two inches of room at the top. Then store for 24 to 36 hours to ferment. Serve with sesame seeds and warm rice.

2. Kimchi pancakes

Knowing how to make kimchi opens up a wide variety of dishes, like these tasty kimchi pancakes. This recipe involves a batter made from all-purpose flour, tomato starch, salt, sugar and red pepper flakes. Cut your kimchi into small pieces before adding it to the mix along with kimchi juice, Korean red pepper paste, scallions, diced onions, spicy Korean peppers, more flour and ice water to make the pancake crispy. Stir the mix with chopsticks to prevent any gluten from forming. Finally, pour the batter onto a heated skillet, and cook on both sides. Top off your pancake with some scallions and enjoy!

3. Kimchi spam fried rice

Who knew kimchi and spam worked so well together? For this recipe, add chopped onions, minced garlic and salt to a pan. Next, add the kimchi and rice before seasoning with soy sauce, fish sauce, sugar and red pepper paste. Once those ingredients are thoroughly mixed, add in some cubes of fried spam and a drizzle of sesame oil. Top off your spam fried rice with a fried egg, green onions and sesame seeds.

4. Kimchi carbonara

Pasta lovers will definitely want to try this kimchi version. For this recipe, begin by cooking your pasta. Next, add some bacon strips to a frying pan and chop those up before adding diced onions and kimchi. Let the ingredients simmer before adding milk and parmesan cheese. After stirring, throw in the pasta and an egg yolk. Then mix everything one last time before serving.

5. Pork belly kimchi

This hearty dish is loaded with flavor. Start by cooking pork in a skillet and sprinkle on some seasoning. Next, pour in your kimchi, followed by a splash of soy sauce. Once all of the ingredients are thoroughly mixed, top off with some chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
