What is Kippo? Meet the dating app made for gamers

What is Kippo? It’s a dating app for gamers interested in meeting other gamers. Here’s why you might want to consider using it.

Why use Kippo?

There are plenty of dating apps out there, including ones that cater to special interests. But why would you want to use one focused on video games?

Because video games are actually a great way to bond. Multiplayer games require communication and teamwork. If you’re playing a game with long pauses between chaos such as Apex Legends, you also get a lot of opportunities for small talk.

Since you and all your potential partners clearly love video games, you already have something in common to talk about — the app has already broken the ice for you.

Moreover, gaming has become a great pandemic hobby. You should be limiting your in-person contact anyway but video games are a great way to hang out with someone without putting either person at risk.

Who made Kippo?

Kippo was co-founded by David Park, Cheeyoon Lee and Sean Suyeda. In May 2020, Kippo raised $2 million in funding.

Aside from Kippo’s founders, several prominent gamers are also attached to the app including Jason “WildTurtle” Tran, Kimi “Plushys” Park.

How does Kippo work?

Setting up a Kippo account requires you to enter your phone number. After that, you build your profile by selecting your favorite games and using the app’s card system.

There are a bunch of cards you can fill out with options ranging from informative to meme-y. The bio card is the most straightforward and it allows you to fill out the usual stuff: gender, preferred pronouns, religious affiliation and so forth. There are also meme-y cards where you can select who your video game sidekick would be or what Harry Potter house you identify with.

After that, you’ll get a list of potential matches you can choose to like, pass or send an opening message to.

Good luck out there!
