Mom uses leftover Halloween candy to tie-dye T-shirt

This TikTok parent shared a brilliantly creative hack for tie-dying t-shirts using leftover Halloween candy!

Kate Bast (@thebastfamily) is a parent who shares parenting hacks, advice, and activities on TikTok. In a recent video, Kate shared a hack that is perfect for anyone who ended up with a little too much Halloween candy this year. Instead of throwing candy away or letting it go stale, Kate uses it to make a cute and colorful tie-dyed t-shirt!

The video begins with Kate standing in her kitchen. She grins at the camera, and dumps a bag of Halloween candy onto the table. Scattered across the countertop, there are a variety of hard candies and chewy candies in colorful fruit flavors. A caption reads, “Leftover candy? Try this!”

Next, Kate places a child-size white t-shirt onto a baking sheet. She unwraps pieces of Halloween candy, and begins to lay them out on the shirt. Kate avoids using anything chocolate for her tie-dye, but uses a range of colorful hard candies and gummy candies.

“Lay out candy on an old t-shirt and spray with water,” a caption reads, as Kate uses a spray bottle to thoroughly wet the t-shirt and its candy decorations.

Kate leaves the t-shirt to dry for 24 hours, then returns to show off her handiwork. Once again, she stands at her kitchen counter, but this time, instead of a bag full of candy, she holds the t-shirt up to the camera. The previously plain white t-shirt is now tie-dyed by the candy, and covered in pastel pinks, oranges, yellows, and greens!

Viewers couldn’t get enough of Kate’s Halloween hack.

“That’s so creative!” one TikToker wrote.

“So simple and so cool!” commented another viewer.

“Oh my cuteness. I love this,” another viewer replied.

However, not everyone was won over. Some skeptical viewers questioned why anyone would have Halloween candy left over when they could simply eat it!

“Wait… What’s leftover Halloween candy?” one viewer joked.

“Bold of you to assume that I’d have leftover candy,” another TikToker commented.

Not everyone ends up with leftover Halloween candy. But, if you do end up with more candy than you know what to do with, Kate’s hack is a great way to put that candy to good use, and have some fun in the process!
