TikTokers are revealing all the things they love in life with this throwback hit.
Sam Smith’s 2014 track “Like I Can” has become a viral sensation on TikTok, seven years after its release. The song was the fifth single of the singer’s debut album In The Lonely Hour. Now it’s the soundtrack to a new trend where people make love confessions to their pets, friends and loved ones. There are currently 1.2 million videos on TikTok associated with the sound. Even Smith joined in on the fun.
What is the “Like I Can” trend on TikTok?
In the trend, popularized by @mrbeaniebean, users post clips of the things they love. The videos eventually freeze-frame in black and white as Smith sings, “There may be lovers who’ll hold out their hands, but / They’ll never love you like I can, can, can.”
How to do the “Like I Can” TikTok trend
She made a follow-up video with a tutorial on how to do the “Like I Can” trend.
1. Open the TikTok app.
2. Select a preexisting video that you love.
3. Upload the video to the “Like I Can” sound up until Smith says “but.”
4. Take a screenshot of the final image.
5. Make the screenshot black and white, then add it to the end of the video.
6. Lastly, add the lyrics in word by word setting each to the duration of your choosing.
