It sounds a little intense, but there are no needles involved. Liquid I.V. is a drink mix: Stir it with 16 ounces of water and drink up. The brand calls itself a “hydration multiplier” and provides two to three times more hydration than water alone, three times the electrolytes than traditional sports drinks and five essential vitamins. And it comes in three tasty flavors: lemon-lime, açai berry and passion fruit.
Liquid I.V., Pack of 16, $23.95
Liquid I.V. is great for drinking during exercise, on especially hot days or when you’re just feeling ill. But my friends and I swear by it for helping with hangovers.
There are a lot of reasons alcohol causes hangovers, including disrupted sleep, inflammation and gastrointestinal irritation. But dehydration is also a contributor because alcohol is a diuretic. Of course, the only true hangover cure is unfortunately time or drinking less alcohol. But Liquid I.V. can at least eliminate one of the contributing factors by helping you rehydrate.
“My friend gave these out in hangover kits as party favors, and little did I know, they would save my life the day after the party,” one Amazon reviewer wrote. “I felt like death and really did not want to eat or drink anything, but I decided to give these a chance. Super glad I did because drinking one whole bottle of this magical powder brought me back to life within a couple of hours, as opposed to loathing all day, regretting life.”
“This stuff is amazing, I can not even begin to tell you how many hangovers I have prevented since discovering this product,” wrote another reviewer. “It tastes very similar to lemon-lime Gatorade. I often mix it with La Croix sparkling water to give it a little bit more exotic flavor.”
Reviewers provide many of their own methods for avoiding a hangover with Liquid I.V., like drinking it before bed, while you consume alcohol, the morning after or a combo of night and day. No matter when you drink it, however, it will help you rehydrate.
You may not want to stop drinking altogether, especially post-pandemic. But always be careful, set limits and drink responsibly. And in the event that all that goes out the window, try Liquid I.V.
