Consisting of seasoned, deep-fried fish filets, truffle fries, and a flavorful tartar sauce, this recipe might be the next best thing to a trip across the pond. Ingredients

  • 1 tsp chopped capers
  • 2 tbsp sweet relish
  • 7 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • ⅓ cup sparkling water
  • 4 fish filets (haddock, cod, or pollack all work well)
  • 1 qt vegetable oil 
  • Truffle oil

  1. First, peel the potatoes, then slice them into French fries and set aside. 
  1. Combine mayonnaise, chopped capers, sweet relish, and lemon juice in a small bowl. 
  1. For the batter, whisk together all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, a pinch of sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, sparkling water, and dark beer in a large bowl. 
  1. Season the fish filets with a pinch of salt and ground pepper.
  1. Coat each filet in all-purpose flour, followed by the batter, then fry them in vegetable oil for 8 minutes before placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to dry. 
  1. Fry the sliced potatoes in the oil for 5 minutes, then set them on a baking sheet with parchment paper and season with salt, before adding a drizzle of truffle oil. 
  1. Transfer the fish and chips to a plate along with the dipping sauce, and enjoy!
