Make the perfect rice every time with these hacks

Think you know the right way to make rice? It’s not as simple as boiling water and throwing in the right serving size. This episode of ITK: Kitchen Hacks shows you four tips you probably didn’t know to get your rice perfectly fluffy with its best flavor ever every time you make it. And your rice will taste just as good when you reheat it. Here are four rice hacks you need to try:

Tools

Home-X Microwave Rice Cooker

Rice Hack 1: Always rinse rice to get rid of extra starch

Put your rice in a fine strainer or sieve and run it under water for a few minutes before cooking. This will remove extra starch and give your rice a better texture when it’s all done.

Rice Hack 2: Place a dish towel over rice while simmering

Most rice packaging will instruct you to cover your pot while the rice simmers. Try putting a dish towel under your pot lid. The towel will absorb extra steam and prevent the rice from becoming mushy.

Rice Hack 3: Microwave rice in a pinch

Cook your rice in a microwave instead of on the stovetop for faster cook time! Put 1 1/2 cups of rinsed rice, 2 1/4 cups of water and a pinch of salt into a Home-X Microwave Rice Cooker and microwave it for perfectly fluffy rice in a matter of minutes.

Rice Hack 4: Prevent dry leftover rice by reheating with an ice cube

Usually day-old rice can become dry and hard when reheated. Avoid this by adding an ice cube to your dish when microwaving and fluffing up the rice with a fork when finished.
