Man faces backlash over ‘controlling’ reaction to wife’s new hobby: ‘Get over yourself’

A man threw away all his wife’s salad dressings then questioned whether it was a mistake.

He went on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum for advice. The man believed his wife had become addicted to salad dressings so he tossed them in the trash. But to his surprise, she went to her parent’s house and stopped returning his messages.

“My wife is a fan of simple foods,” the Reddit poster explained. “Originally she would make her own dressings for the salads and pasta, but I guess she found it too much work and started buying a variety. […] Right now we have two side drawers full of different dressings, I’d say there’s over 20. I’ve tried talking to her about it gently a few times, but she always kind of brushes it off as if it’s just dressing.”

Then when his wife came home with two more dressings, the husband lost his cool.

“I finally snapped and told her she needs to control her weird dressing addiction because this is seriously getting out of control,” he wrote. “She got pissed at me for calling it weird and said there’s nothing wrong with having a variety of stuff that she uses nearly every day. Well, I had enough so after she went to bed, I started cleaning the fridge and threw a majority of them away. Needless to say, she was pissed when she woke up. She ended up leaving to her parents and won’t answer my calls or texts. I called her mom who called me a controlling a****** and told me to leave her alone.”

Reddit users did not side with the husband on this issue.

“Get over yourself and start respecting your wife,” one person wrote.

“Why is this such a big deal to you?” another commented.

“Stop being a brat,” someone said
