On this episode of 1K Dream Room, Host Will Taylor (@brightbazaar) helps Manhattanite Halley transform her bare bedroom into a sleek, modern, and comfortable sanctuary with just one day to finish and $1,000 to spend. Now that she and her boyfriend live together, Halley wants their new shared bedroom to reflect their personalities through a natural, minimal, and modern aesthetic. With its white walls and simple layout, the bedroom is the perfect empty canvas for Will to work his magic!

To get the most room out of a small space when decorating, Will says it’s important to consider the size and shape of the furniture. Will gives the room more usable living space by replacing Halley’s low wide dresser with a taller 5-drawer walnut chest, leaving enough room to add a mid-century wooden and leather chair in the corner as a reading nook.

Moving on, Will rolls out a light gray vintage-inspired abstract area rug before styling both sides of the bed with a marble top side table, each topped with a dome-shaped gold accent lamp. Will suggests layering decorative accents featuring metallic, stone, and wooden elements to add warmth and dimension to a monochromatic and minimal space.

When decorating a space with a mid-century look in mind, Will’s biggest tip is to introduce furnishings with wood and brass elements in addition to flared and tapered legs. He dresses the angular, gray latitude run queen-upholstered low-profile bed in a soothing, charcoal-colored melange duvet cover set. After styling the walls and surfaces with a few more earthy, metallic, and wooden accent trimmings, it’s time for the grand reveal!

Upon seeing her new room for the first time, Halley immediately falls in love with the classic modern aesthetic. She’s thrilled that her new dresser makes space for a chair, and is also impressed by how the balance of elements adds warmth and dimension to the bedroom while maintaining a homey quality. Altogether, Halley is looking forward to enjoying a fresh start after the epic room makeover.
