Mary Jo Young is TikTok’s pick to win American Idol and she might be Luke Bryan’s too.

Young has 307,000 TikTok followers.
She blew up on TikTok thanks to her sultry song covers.
Young started posting TikTok videos of herself singing during the pandemic and it turns out people wanted more.
“I just posted videos and I thought it’d be cool if one of them blew up,” Young told Cleveland. “Everything just started growing more and I thought, this is great. Now I can post songs on Spotify and people listen. It’s nice to see people actually enjoy listening and I don’t just enjoy doing it.
American Idol recruited Young, but it wasn’t the only show that wanted her to compete.
Young revealed she was asked to be on America’s Got Talent, The Voice and American Idol.
“I thought I’d do American Idol because everyone on the show sings; I don’t want to go up against someone who’s juggling fire because I don’t know how the heck that would go,” Young told Cleveland. “It all happened in the blink of an eye. One day I was posting covers and all of the sudden I had people reaching out from shows.”
Her first time performing in front of an audience was on American Idol.
Not only was Young’s audition her first time performing in front of an audience, but it was her first time singing in front of her mom.
Young sang in front of judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry and impressed the pants off of them.
“I’m kind of in love with the idea of watching you grow actually on the show. You’re going to learn everything from American Idol. It’s a yes for me, [it will be] interesting to watch the journey,” Richie said.
“Never forget where you came from, no matter how far you end up going. It’s a yes for me,” Katy Perry told her.
“Top ten, I think,” Luke Bryan said.
