Add matcha to your routine to get these potent health benefits

Matcha is everywhere these days — in skincare, supplements, drinks and even desserts. It’s not just delicious and trendy, though — it’s seriously good for you.

According to Healthline, matcha and green tea both come from the Camellia sinensis plant. When farmers grow matcha, they cover the plants 20 to 30 days before harvesting to increase chlorophyll — and, as a result, amino acid — production. That’s why matcha powder contains a more potent blend of nutrients, antioxidants and caffeine than other teas.

Phoebe Zaslav is In The Know’s matcha hype woman. She broke down the seemingly endless benefits of matcha and how even coffee drinkers can incorporate it into their lifestyle.

Keep reading to learn all about matcha’s many health benefits.

Matcha can help cure bad breath.

“Specifically, it has an anti-bacterial aspect that helps prevent bacteria from growing in your mouth,” Phoebe explained. “So if you’re dealing with bad breath or you just want an extra refresh for your mouth, try some matcha.”

Just make sure there isn’t a high level of sugar content in the matcha you consume since that’s not great for your pearly whites.

It has cancer-fighting ingredients.

“Matcha has a huge volume of the antioxidant called EGCG that is helping to fight off cancer cells as well as boost fertility,” Phoebe said.

Yep, EGCG can help boost fertility — and matcha is the tea that has the highest content of it.

It promotes healthy skin.

“It has a lot of anti-inflammatory properties which helps prevent redness and chronic acne,” Phoebe said. “I used a matcha face mask on my skin this morning and my skin feels amazing.”

Matcha can also rejuvenate skin that lacks oxygen, like in the case of smokers, poor sleepers and those exposed to pollution.

There are many other ways matcha can help.

It reduces cholesterol, boosts energy and endurance, supports brain health and promotes heart health.

It can supplement or replace your daily cup of coffee.

“Once I learned these facts, instead of having two cups of coffee, I’ll have one cup and then matcha,” Phoebe said. “Yeah, sorry, I’m not cutting out coffee.”
