Folklórico dancer, content creator
Hometown: San Bernardino, Calif.
20-year-old Matisse Rainbolt is a folklórico dancer — a traditional Mexican style with its own genres of music, fashion and dance that vary based on region. In many generations of Mexican immigrants, Rainbolt says families can feel “stripped of their culture.” That’s why performing folklórico for her 1.1 million TikTok followers is so special to both Rainbolt and her great-grandmother.
“It is so important to me that these traditions are kept alive for a really long time,” she told In The Know in an interview. “I don’t want it to be something that is going to be really rare to see in 20 or 30 years.”
As a Mexican-American living in the U.S., Rainbolt is passionate about sharing Mexico’s beautiful culture and how diverse it is on social media. She also teaches folklórico to elementary school students and instructs a folklórico dance group in her area.
