Meet the Instagram-famous animator who brings Pokémon into ‘real-life’

For any Pokémon loving kid (or adult), there’s nothing more exciting than the idea that your favorite super-powered creatures could exist for real.

Dave Ashby turns that fantasy into a reality. The video editor, who’s based in the U.K. has built a massive fanbase thanks to his ability to bring Pokémon into the real world.

Ashby’s videos all have a few things in common. Usually, the animator starts with footage from a completely mundane activity, like walking in the park or building sandcastles at the beach.

Then, he adds something remarkable.

Ashby has nearly 30,000 followers on Instagram, where he’s been sharing his work since at least 2018.

During that time, his animations have gone from his home country to places as distant as outer space. In a recent video, he edited a group of Clefairies into a NASA live stream.

It’s clear his work has impressed more than a few Instagram users. Each video is full of praise, with commenters calling Ashby’s work “amazing” and “truly remarkable”

“I’m just amazed everytime you post something. Wow,” one user wrote on a recent post.

“I’m OBSESSED,” another added.
