Moving can be stressful, especially if you’re a hermit crab. Since a hermit crab’s shell doubles as its house and outfit, finding the right one is crucial.
“What is he investigating?” a child asks off-camera as the crab’s legs and claws examine the empty shell. Once it becomes apparent that the crab is in the process of relocating shells, the camera zooms in for a closeup of the transfer.
The crab pokes around the shell a bit more, taking time to assess the property. After finalizing its decision to make the move, the crab angles its red upper body and crawls on top of the shell before sliding the white lower half out from the old shell and into the new one.
“Wow! Wow!” the TikToker exclaims. “That is super cool!”
As the video comes to a close, the crab adjusts to its new living quarters, then extends one of its legs and kicks its old shell to the side.
Viewers shared their concerns about the crab’s move
Many viewers were fascinated by the crab’s change of address. Others had concerns regarding the crab’s living environment.
“I imagine it having a ‘bloop’ sound when it switches,” wrote one user.
“Please look [for] a new habitat. They need tons of deep sand to molt in and deep pools of salt and normal water,” one TikToker noted.
“Oh that poor little guy. I really hope this is just a temporary enclosure for him,” mentioned one concerned viewer.
It turns out the small container was only a temporary space for the hermit crab, who now resides in this large abode.
