Designer creates zero-waste, luxury fashion using leftover fabric from multimillion-dollar brands

Morgan Young is a fashion designer and founder of AndAgain, a luxury fashion label in Los Angeles. What sets AndAgain’s chic and edgy looks apart from other brands is Young’s devotion to zero-waste fashion.

The 25-year-old entrepreneur started AndAgain during her junior year of college and now it’s been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle France.

“I didn’t have any interest in sustainability or environmental responsibility, but I learned that it takes over 1,000 gallons of water to create one pair of jeans when it comes to growing the cotton and manufacturing,” she told In The Know. “So it created this kind of thought of, ‘Why can’t we just use what’s already out in the world and repurpose it?'”

Young’s signature aesthetic is oversized, black and white neutrals with lots of metal embellishments. But creating these compelling looks is a labor of love.

“I first start by getting deadstock fabrics and materials — deadstock is remnants from larger brands,” Young said. “I first start by patchworking that, but once you patchwork, you have even smaller cutting scraps. So what I do is I take those, I cut them up into tiny little pieces, and I layer them between two layers of fabric and create a really unique quilt.”

This means that many of AndAgain’s pieces are one of a kind and every customer is getting their own unique version of each design.

“I feel like, as a creative, it’s my responsibility to take care of the planet,” Young said. “When we say like, you need to be zero-waste or you need to only work with fabrics in this capacity, it challenges you. And I think that challenge makes me a better designer And I think it also just allows for so much more creativity.”
