TikToker Nessa Barrett chastised by fans for ‘promoting cigarette smoking’

TikTok star and pop singer Nessa Barrett is in trouble with her 4.5 million Instagram followers.

On Jan. 7, the 18-year-old posted a series of photos of her and fellow TikToker Cooper Noriega casually posing while lighting and smoking cigarettes.

Thought the photos received more than 1 million likes on Barrett’s account, many fans took to the comments to criticize the young influencer for using her large platform to promote something so “bad for you.”

“Yikes promoting cigarette smoking to your young impressionable fans? Do better,” one person said.

“Smoking is bad … cmon Nessa you can do better,” another added.

“Why are you normalizing smoking?” a third wrote. “At the end of the day it’s bad for you.”

Barrett definitely saw some of the backlash in the comments, because she eventually addressed it directly via her Instagram Story, writing, “U guys are so soft lmao stfu bc I don’t care.”

Barrett’s response was definitely not what fans were expecting — though it’s probably what they should have anticipated, given what the influencer has said in the past. Earlier this month, she called out some of her fellow influencers who have been traveling amid the pandemic in a series of posts, noting that it’s “almost embarrassing to see so many people party, travel and disrespect simple safety rules.”
