The clip, posted by the popular TikToker Jeremy Cohen (@jeremycohen), captured nearly 3 million views in just its first day online. That’s because, as many commenters noted, Cohen showed off an apartment that looks like something out of a sci-fi film.
It’s a rare kind of viral video on TikTok, where oftentimes New York apartments gain popularity for their ugliness, not their beauty. In the past, New Yorkers showed off the alleged “worst apartment ever,” as well as a “nauseating” apartment with several innavigable hallways.
Cohen’s clip is a far cry from those TikToks. As he shows in his video, the New York studio — which is not his — features a series of high-tech features that can turn his space into several different rooms.
“Apartment of the future,” Cohen captioned his post.
In the video, Cohen shows how several parts of the studio can change at the push of a button. First, he reveals how the wall expands into a full walk-in closet.
Then, he shows how the kitchen wall can jut forward, revealing a long, spacious office area.
Lastly, Cohen reveals what he calls the “best part” — an Ori Cloud Bed. The bed, designed by the Brooklyn-based furniture maker, Ori Living, can descend from the ceiling whenever someone wants to use it. When the bed’s away, the space allows for residents to have a full living room area.
TikTokers were largely impressed by the design, calling it “futuristic” and “genius.”
“Yeah, this is actually lit,” one user wrote.
“This is the dream,” another wrote.
Others, expectedly, wondered how much the rent was.
“That looks expensive,” one user wrote.
“If you can afford that you can afford more space,” another added.
