Norwegian ups ante with largest racetrack at sea

Spending a week on a cruise can either be extremely enjoyable or repetitive, depending on the onboard entertainment that is available. From live shows to spas, cruise lines offer an array of options that keep guests occupied as they travel to their destinations.

On Monday, Norwegian Cruise Line appeared to set the bar when its latest ship, the Norwegian Encore, arrived in New York. Built in Germany and christened by none other than Grammy Award-winning artist Kelly Clarkson, the vessel reportedly boasts 16 passenger decks and can fit approximately 4,000 people. The boat also has more than 10 bars and lounges, nine specialty restaurants and six additional restaurants.

But the most attractive feature of the Norwegian Encore is the list of activities it offers. Like other ships, Norwegian’s vessel provides the usual live musicals. Unlike other boats, it also has a mini water park, a “virtual reality world” and a 1,100-foot-long racetrack that lets passengers experience the thrill of driving go-karts. Yes, you read that right. A racetrack. According to Norwegian, it’s the largest racetrack at sea — even bigger than the ones on the company’s other vessels, such as the Norwegian Joy and the Norwegian Bliss

Set to make its official debut this month, the Norwegian Encore will sail from either New York or Miami to parts of the Caribbean, including Bermuda, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This is definitely one ship that many cruise enthusiasts won’t want to miss out on.
