I’m not naturally a so-called “healthy eater.” I almost never crave vegetables or choose a lean fish over red meat. I love all things fried, processed and sweet. That said, to help convince myself make meals at home rather than ordering takeout, I often turn to a meal kit, strategic meal planning or an easy-to-use gadget.

One kitchen gadget I rely on is the NutriBullet. I use the compact blender to make protein shakes and smoothies in the morning, and soups and salad dressings at night. Honestly, it’s a game changer.

The original NutriBullet is small, but mighty. It has a 600-watt motor and comes with an extractor blade, 24-ounce tall cup, 18-ounce short cup and handled comfort lip rings for drinking your creations right out of the cups.

To use, add your ingredients to a cup and screw on the extractor blade (it goes on like a lid). Then, flip the cup upside down and place it on the blender. Press down and gently twist for a continuous blend, or simply press down to pulse. It’s that easy.

To clean, I immediately rinse the blades with dish soap and water. After enjoying a smoothie or something else, I place the cup in the dishwasher for a more thorough washing.

The blades are sharp, so things blend pretty quickly. Most recently, I’ve used it to make this Leek, Potato and Cheddar Soup by Clean Eating Magazine and this Chicken Posole Verde by Isabel Eats. I also use it to blend the smoothies I order from Daily Harvest.

The original NutriBullet is the least expensive of the brand’s blenders, priced at $59.99. But for a limited time, you can get free shipping on all U.S. orders over $65 ,and get a free 1-year warranty on all blenders and juicers.

If you feel like you need a stronger motor in your personal-sized blender, the brand also makes a NutriBullet Pro (900 watts), NutriBullet Pro 1000 (1000 watts), NutriBullet Select 1000 (1000 watts) and the NutriBullet Rx Blender (1700 watts). It recently launched the Magic Bullet Kitchen Blender and Food Processor Combo, too.

If you need a blender that does the job and doesn’t take up a lot of space, the NutriBullet is it.
