In the series $1K Dream Room, host Will Taylor uses a modest budget of $1,000 to turn drab spaces into dream apartments.

When it comes to redecorating a space on your own, it’s hard to know where to start — especially if your space is a small New York City living room.

In a new video series called $1K Dream Room, Will Taylor of Bright Bazaar completely revamps a room in one day with only $1,000. In the first episode, Taylor is on the mission to revamp Mac’s living space. Now, Mac’s living room already has great bones. You’ll see a fireplace and two tall windows that provide tons of natural light. Plus, she has a new green sofa that she wants to use as a centerpiece for the room.

Mac tells Taylor that she loves Scandinavian design, which is going to be the theme for the finishing touches.

To get started on decorating, Taylor first selects the rug, which guides the direction for the rest of the decor.

Now, on to the walls. Because Mac’s apartment is a rental, the walls can’t be painted. To create a wall accent piece, Taylor decides to paint two half-circle canvases to act as a vocal point above the couch. Let’s just say, they turn out brilliantly and look so high-end.

In order to maximize the natural light in the room and make the space feel twice as big, Taylor hangs a mirror opposite the windows so that more light will bounce back into the room. Of course, he chooses a minimalistic wooden mirror that goes along with the rest of the Scandinavian decor.
