5 panna cotta recipes that are peak aesthetic

For a sophisticated dessert that looks good on any serving dish, look no further than panna cotta. While the traditional Italian custard may seem intricate, it’s surprisingly easy to throw together. The simple recipe lends itself well to numerous tasty flavors and pleasing presentations that will leave your dinner guests wanting more. From miso butterscotch to passion fruit, here are five pretty panna cotta recipes to tempt your eyes and taste buds.

Surprise and delight your guests with this suspended panna cotta recipe! The dessert features a gelatinous layer of chilled tea combined with melted red and orange gummies in a flat-bottomed wine glass. A small bouquet of edible flowers decorates the center of the tea and gummy blend, while a layer of panna cotta made from chilled milk, heavy cream, sugar and gelatin lies suspended at the top of the wine glass. Pink powdered sugar dusted on top of the levitating panna cotta provides a pretty finishing touch. 

2. Miso butterscotch panna cotta

Butterscotch and miso may sound like an unusual food combination, but the odd couple pairs deliciously in this panna cotta dessert. Pour a mixture of boiled gelatin, water, milk, sugar, heavy cream and vanilla extract into a wine glass, and cover the top with plastic wrap before setting it in the fridge for at least four hours. After refrigerating, top the panna cotta with a layer of miso butterscotch made from boiled cream, butter, light miso and brown sugar. Finally, garnish with toasted hazelnuts, crispy chocolate pearls and sugar floss before serving. 

3. Blue matcha panna cotta

This panna cotta recipe features a colorful twist on traditional matcha. First, add cream, sugar, melted white chocolate, agar agar and blue matcha powder to a saucepan, and stir gently until the mixture turns light blue. Next, place the saucepan on the stovetop over medium-high heat and let it simmer for five to seven minutes. Then pour the panna cotta mix into a mold and set it in the refrigerator overnight. Finally, remove the panna cotta from the mold and sprinkle on some blue matcha powder before topping it off with mint leaves and edible flowers.

4. Passion fruit panna cotta

Treat your basic panna cotta recipe to a delicious infusion of passion fruit. Start by combining gelatin with water. Then add the mix to a saucepan over medium-high heat with heavy cream, sugar and vanilla extract. Let the mixture simmer for about five minutes. Then pour it into a ramekin dish, and refrigerate for four hours or overnight. Finally, plate the panna cotta after refrigerating and top with passion fruit sauce made from boiled passion fruits and sugar before serving. 

5. Fig leaves and gorse vegan panna cotta

If foraging is how you like to prepare your meals, then look no further than this vegan panna cotta with fig leaves and gorse flowers. First, pour a panna cotta mix, made from coconut milk, sugar, vanilla and agar agar infused with gorse flowers and baked fig leaves, into a dish or mold. Refrigerate for at least four hours before serving on a plate lined with fig leaves. Finally, top with a few more gorse flowers, and enjoy!
