If you follow Chrissy Teigen on Instagram or have read any of her cookbooks, then you know her mom, Pepper Teigen. The two share an incredibly close bond — and a love for food. And now, Pepper just released her own cookbook called The Pepper Thai Cookbook: Family Recipes From Everyone’s Favorite Thai Mom, which features dishes both she and Chrissy grew up eating.

The cookbook includes over 85 recipes for family-style dishes, including traditional Thai recipes and American recipes with Thai flavors. You can learn how to make dishes like crispy shrimp toast, green papaya salad, hot basil eggplant, Thai glazed ribs, Luna’s broccoli beef and fried chicken larb. Seriously, there are so many great recipes!

The Pepper Thai Cookbook also includes Pepper’s stories about her early days of living in the U.S., and the story behind how she learned to cook Thai dishes with American ingredients. Plus, she shares a few stories about living with Chrissy and her husband, John Legend. (Yes, they’ve all lived together under one roof for years.)

Vilailuck Teigen, better known as Pepper Thai, grew up helping her own mother cook and sell breakfast and lunch to school children in Korat, Thailand. In her early 20s, Pepper immigrated to the U.S. to be with Chrissy’s father Ron Teigen, an American electrician. The couple has since divorced.

“When I first got to America, I missed Thailand so much,” Teigen recently told Thrillist. “I was living in America’s countryside, far from markets. For fresh produce, I had to go to bigger cities that required two or three hour drives.”

However, she kept searching for the right ingredients and found dried goods from Vietnamese and Lao markets. So, she adapted her classic Thai recipes to work with what she had. “I had to try to survive,” she said. “Writing this cookbook made me remember the things I’ve learned with my mom, and the recipes I had to adapt.”

The Pepper Thai Cookbook is co-written by Garret Snyder and includes a foreword by none other than Chrissy. You can find it on Amazon for $29.99 starting April 13. Whether you love Thai food or have never tried it, it’s worth adding to your book shelf.
