March 14 is Pi Day! If you’re unfamiliar with this slightly obscure holiday, Pi Day is a celebration of the mathematical concept pi, whose first three digits happen to be 3.14. Whether you’re a math enthusiast or simply craving a sweet treat, there’s no better way to celebrate Pi Day than with a homemade pie! Here are five delicious pie recipes from TikTok in honor of Pi Day.
This classic cherry pie is deliciously sweet and pairs perfectly with vanilla ice cream. To make it, start by removing the pits from your cherries. Then cut them in half. Mix the cherries with a vanilla bean, granulated sugar, cornstarch, salt and lemon juice. Next, roll out a homemade pie crust, and place it in a pie tin. Fill the pie with cherries, cover the pie with a lattice crust, bake and enjoy!
This three-ingredient lemon pie is rich, creamy and only takes a few minutes to make. Just mix condensed milk and lemon juice until they thicken. Then mix in two eggs and a bit of lemon zest. Pour the filling into a 9-inch pie crust, and bake it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 minutes until the pie solidifies. Then chill the pie for two hours, top with whipped cream, and dig in!
This brown butter peach pie looks beautiful and tastes great. To make it, cook butter, peach slices and brown sugar in a pan until the peaches soften. Then set the peach mixture aside, and let it cool. Next, roll out a pie crust and gently place it in a pie tin. Poke holes in the bottom of the crust with a fork, and add the peach filling. Then use strips of crust to create a lattice pattern across the pie. Brush the pie with a bit of egg wash, and then bake until golden brown.
This truly unique pumpkin pie is baked inside of an actual pumpkin and has the consistency of crème brûlée! To make it, start by hollowing out a pumpkin. Then mix sugar, eggs, vanilla bean paste, heavy cream, cornstarch and salt. Pour the mixture into the pumpkin, and bake it until the mixture begins to solidify and turn golden brown. When you remove it from the oven, the finished pie should have the consistency of a custard.
These handheld fried apple pies are such a creative twist on the classic apple pie. Start by cutting brioche bread into equally sized circles. Then cook apples with butter, white sugar, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla extract and lemon juice. Pour a bit of the apple filling onto half of the brioche circles. Then place a second piece of brioche on top, and seal it with a fork. Fry the apple pies in oil until they turn golden brown. Then top with cinnamon, sugar and caramel, and enjoy!
