Depressed pit bull experiencing ‘phantom’ pregnancy has sweetest reaction to new puppy: ‘My heart just broke’

A pit bull who desperately wanted to be a mother was shocked by a new addition to the family — and TikTok can’t handle the cuteness.

Daisy the 3-year-old pit bull garnered over 2.4 million views, 553,000 likes and nearly 6,000 comments when her human uploaded the tear-jerking footage to her TikTok account.

Now, much like the devoted pit bull dad who refused to leave his nursing “wife’s” side, or the worried pittie who cries every time her human brother cries, Daisy’s sweet video is proving that dogs feel emotions just as deeply as humans do — and that they value their little ones as much as any parent does.

In the video, captioned, “Daisy’s been sad and not herself,” we see the forlorn pit bull gently cuddling a small collection of balls.

“Daisy is having a phantom pregnancy,” her humans explain with on-screen text. “She thinks her balls are her puppies and is mothering them.”

According to PetMD, a “phantom” or “false” pregnancy is a condition typically seen in unspayed female dogs.

Because of hormonal changes, dogs going through a phantom pregnancy can experience the same behavioral and physical changes as a dog that’s actually pregnant — such as enlarged mammary glands, frequent urination, and increased hunger.

But the most common symptom of a false pregnancy is restlessness and nesting.

“Your dog might bring blankets or other objects to their bed to create a nest, and may be reluctant to leave this area,” PetMD explains.

“They may also ‘mother’ objects like toys, carrying them around, putting them in their nest, and protecting them.”

TikTokers in the thousands were deeply touched by Daisy’s longing for a puppy of her own.

“Get that dog a puppy, PLEASE I’M BEGGING YOU,” one user wrote in the comments.

Thankfully, Daisy’s humans wasted no time in making her dreams of motherhood come true.

As thousands of comments poured in, begging to family to get a puppy, her humans assured them that a puppy was on its way.

That puppy was little Dash, who Daisy immediately fell in love with.

“No my heart just broke. What a sweet mama,” one user wrote.

“This is the best news, and I am so looking forward to their adventures ❤️🐾❤️🐾,” another user commented.

“This makes me so happy. Seeing this has made my day,” commented another.

According to Daisy’s humans, both pups are doing very well, and Daisy is excelling at motherhood — a tail-wagging happy ending for all.
