A plumber gave TikTokers the lowdown on the best way to unclog drains and clean pipes.
Fixing a clogged drain in your apartment or home can be a real headache. Many liquid drain cleaners are full of toxic chemicals, and having a plumber stop by can get expensive. Fortunately, a TikToker and self-identified licensed plumber with the fitting username @plumberman35 posted a video in which he shares the best pipe-cleaning product, and viewers are taking notes.
The clip opens with a shot of the plumber standing in front of several shelves of liquid drain cleaners.
“Take it from your hometown plumber,” the TikToker tells viewers before he points to a variety of liquid drain cleaning products and says, “don’t do it,” for each one.
The camera pans away from the liquid cleaners before focusing on shelves filled with plumbing tools. The man grabs a contraption that looks like a ray gun from a shelf and holds it up before affirmatively saying, “Do it.”
It turns out the device that the TikTok plumber suggested was not a ray gun but rather what’s known as a drain snake. Drain snakes feature an extendable apparatus that can reach deep into drains and dislodge whatever is clogging the pipes.
In a follow-up video, @plumberman35 explains why he advocates for staying away from liquid drain cleaners by simply reading the dangers listed on the back of the bottle.
“Danger: Keep out of reach of children. Harmful if swallowed,” he reads.
TikTokers were mixed on their plumbing solutions
While many viewers had never seen or heard of a drain snake before and were intrigued by its possibilities, others remained loyal to liquid drain cleaners.
“You expect me to buy anything more than something I can pour? Hell nah,” one user commented.
“I always go for the snake. I bought the exact same one. Thanks for reassuring,” mentioned one TikToker.
While everyone has different preferences for drain cleaning products, it never hurts to get some advice from a professional.
