Can “rainbow grapes” seriously compete with real candy?
This viral recipe, which uses only two ingredients, has TikTokers turning fruit into ultra-sweet, ultra-decorative treats. It’s not clear exactly where the trend started, but the popular foodie TikToker @honeybobabear really helped it to blow up.
This hack’s secret ingredient, it seems, is Jell-O. Coating grapes in the colorful crystals — and then freezing them — not only turns them into candy but gives them the look of tiny, glittering disco balls.
It’s a recipe so easy it almost seems too good to be true. That’s why we decided we had to try it to see how it stacked up against, well, actual candy.

How to make TikTok’s ‘rainbow grapes’
Here’s what you’ll need for this recipe:
- Green grapes
- 5 Jell-O flavors (we went with raspberry, blueberry, peach, lime and lemon)
First, wash your grapes and place them in a large bowl. Next, pour your Jell-O packets into five separate bowls close to the grapes.
Next, stab a grape with a toothpick and roll it around in one of the Jell-O flavors to coat it with the powder. Place it on a baking sheet or tray coated with parchment paper. Repeat this process over and over again until you have an equal number of grapes from each flavor, filling up the entire sheet. Then, cool the tray for two hours.
And that’s it. After that, you’re ready to dig in!
We were really blown away by these treats. Some flavors tasted better than others (the peach flavor was a major miss), but overall, rainbow grapes really do compete with candy. The sour flavors taste like Warheads, and the sweeter ones more like Sour Patch Kids. They’re pretty photogenic, too.
