A bride uninvited her parents from her wedding — after they “ruined” her sister’s.
She asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum for advice. Her parents are “overbearing people” with “huge personalities,” according to the bride. They’ll steamroll anyone who gets in their way, which is what happened at her sister’s wedding.
“They made terrible speeches, got the dj to play crappy music for the ‘older folks’, tried to get the photographer to do family pictures for people not in the wedding party ‘since they was here anyway and everyone is dressed up,'” the bride explained.
When she told them not to do these things at her wedding, they said they were who they were and had no plans to change.
“I talked to my fiance about it,” she wrote. “And we uninvited them I told them that they were welcome to come to the church as guests but that I did not want them near my wedding party during the pictures or at our reception.”
Her family is split down the middle. Some think it’s the right call, while others think she should accept her parents.
“Nobody asks them to change, just behave like decent human beings,” a user wrote.
“They don’t have to change, and they also don’t need to come. Simple!” another commented.
“Finally they are learning that choices have consequences,” a person added.
